An Opioid a Day,

About the style,

Having spent a week in and out of doctors offices, I noticed a neat collection of outpatient forms laying on my desk. Being the only thing I was allowed to read for a week, the structure and rigidity of the forms caught my interest. There was an almost intrusive voice that arose from these forms and had a very no-nonsense theme about them. Our medical structure in American is not without flaw by any stretch of the imagination. Putting these two thoughts together led me to the idea that possibly the juxtaposition of a medical form highlighting the medical system's flaws could be a beautiful contradiction to the professional documents we see in our day to day lives.

The first nuance that I wanted to add were subtle details to the document that would not be caught in a fleeting glance. I achieved this by incorporating things such as the hospitals name, patient name, and patient medical number. (The latter being, the number of drug related deaths in American in 2020). I also felt that some of the nuances were withing the subsection titles. I felt if I were to change these to fit more of the topic, the document would lose some of its rigidity that I strived to use. This forced the intended ideas to have to conform to the titles.

I referenced my own out patient form for the structure, and I believe I was successful in achieving this. That is not to say I was not without limitations. The size of the text I was allotted to write with was most definitely restraining. I lost the ability to expand on thoughts and elaborate on details that if I were writing some with less structure, I would have most definitely approached. With these restrictions, I felt that I was still able to explore this content in a more professional writing manner. I think both the message and the intentions came across and the document holds value.
